Live Art Weekend
This past weekend was a total blast! I participated in a live art show/charity auction to benefit the Genesis Women's Shelter in Dallas. Good times were had, many a brew drank, and art was made. I took part in my first jam piece, which was loads of fun. All in all, Rob Guillory, Nick Pitarra, Kody Chamberlain, Kristian Donaldson all threw some stuff down on two giant art boards.
I also contributed a piece featuring the girls of Morning Glories: Casey, Jade & Zoe, in little Santa outfits, a la Mean Girls.
I had a great time, and can't wait to do this again. But for now, back to work!

Otcho/Shogun
found this piece I did this past summer, and I had forgotten to post it. Shogun/Otcho from my current favorite comic series, 20th Century Boys. Seriously, I love that comic--I know I talk about it alot--but I highly recommend it! :)'
Otcho is probably my favorite character in the book--he's a total badass.

Spider Jerusalem Too
The second Spider Jerusalem (Transmetropolitan) that I did for my commission sale (which I am egregiously behind on, but catching up!).
Back to work.

Austin Comic Con Commissions
Austin Comic Con has come and gone, and what a show it was! First con I've been to since San Diego and first exhibiting since Houston back in May (having missed both Texas Comic Con and NYCC). Don't have much time to post, but I want to thank each and every person that came by my table to hang out, get sketches and buy books. I've been consistently floored this year for the love you guys have for Morning Glories! I was glad to hang out after the show with buds like Nick Pitarra and Rob Guillory, and finally meet creators I've admired, like Nathan Edmondson, Kody Chamberlain and David Marquez.
Without further ado, here are (most of) the sketches I did this weekend! Apologies for the cam-quality of most of the pics:
Dazzler: Golden Age Catwoman Poison Ivy Zatanna Buffy vs. Vampirella X-23 Polaris Red Sonja Zoe from Morning Glories sketchcard Sexy Jade from Morning Glories #1 Sexy Jade #2 David from Morning Glories kills Spider-man Emma Frost & Casey Blevins from Morning Glories Ike from Morning Glories w/ Squirrel And lastly, for our dear friend, Kevin Mellon, here's NIck Pitarra and I in the best hug evar. haha Then, reprazentin' YMAGE:

Commission Sale, part 1
Here are three commissions I just finished this week as part of my commission sale. It's always fun seeing what kinds of requests I get. First up we have U-Go Girl, from Marvel's X-force/X-statix. She was my favorite character of that era, so I was stoked to get the chance to draw her. Next are Sayda & Chaos, two original characters created by Misty Coats, the brilliant colorist of Image's Skullkickers. Really dug Misty's designs for these two--hope I didn't mess 'em up too bad! And finally, Deadpool vs. Taskmaster, two characters I've drawn before, but that I never tire of!

Two New Commissions
Two new commissions! First up is the classic, Byrne-era version of the White Queen/Emma Frost. This version was my introduction to the character, so she was a blast to draw. And second up, the always popular Batman villainness, Poison Ivy. She's probably my fave of the Bat Rogue's Gallery because, well, she's hot. haha

Twelve
12 issues of Morning Glories. Man, I can’t believe it! We almost made it to where the 12th issue was out exactly a year after the first (if we hadn’t gotten delayed between 10 and 11). Ah well. Still, it’s the longest run of comics I’ve ever worked on. (Granted, I surpassed that milestone at issue 5) And in this market, that’s a pretty significant milestone!
It’s been a rollercoaster ride, and it only seems to be getting crazier. We recently turned in issue 13, which kicks off the third arc of the series and I must say, I’m pretty proud of this one. Usually, the first part of a new story arc can be touch and go—it can be difficult to find your footing as an artist. Here, I think all things clicked. This one starts a very Invisibles-esque storyline, and I couldn’t be more excited about that. We’ve got lots of awesome twists and turns in store, and I hope you’ll all still be along for the ride!
To commemorate this event, I drew up this shot of Zoe and a little birthday cupcake. Cheers! (if you want the inked original, shoot me an email at joe(at)supajoe.com)

Morning Glory Babies: David
this little warmup was just for kicks. Matt from Multiversity comics was joking around that my son should draw a book called 'Morning Glory Babies,' featuring kid-sized versions of the Morning Glories cast--like Muppet Babies. I thought it was hilarious and sketched up this 'baby' version of David, the ghostly being that haunts the school grounds.

Eden of the East
Finally finished drawing the mammoth Morning Glories #13, so before I tackle my commission load, I decided to do some Eden of the East fan art! Specifically, main characters Akira Takizawa and Saki Morimi.
I loved the original series, and the first movie, and it's got a pretty sweet soundtrack (which makes great background music for drawing comics).

Morning Graves
Did this while waiting on script pages. I’m an unabashed New Mutants fan, and I’ve made it known the cover to issue 38 is one of my faves, so I thought it might be fun to put the Morning Glories kids in that same cover set up in tribute. Original credits of course to the amazing Art Adams! (original here)

July Commissions!
Here are some recently completed commissions I did this month:
Jun from Morning Glories, for the winner of my 1000 followers Twitter contest. Next contest will be when I hit 1500 followers!
Zatanna commission. I used multiliners, zebra pens and copic ciao markers on this:
And lastly, a Maxim cover recreation featuring Zoe from Morning Glories. All text provided by the buyer. Wish my scanner hadn't lopped off the text on the left, but you can still make it out:
